Ode is a project that continues an exploration into notions of desire, loss and mourning. These works on paper are partly inspired by Victorian practices of ornamental hair work. This was an era when death was the subject for polite conversation and mourning was a protracted agony accessorised with brooches and lockets containing the deceased's hair. Today, however, death appears to be sanitised and mourning rituals have little presence in our social milieu. These works are an ode to mortality.
